This month’s Martian of the Month is Ms. Monteleone! She is a dance teacher, arts program manager, and so much more. Fia ‘21 , her dance TA, commented that she  “is always accessible, approachable, helpful.” She has been creative her entire life, participating in dance and other artistic outlets in performing arts. And most importantly, Fia noted, she “always has a smile on her face.”

Q:  What is your role on campus?

A: My roles on campus include arts program manager, after school dance teacher, dance school administrator and Lower School substitute teacher. As the Arts Program manager, I help manage a wide array of Arts performances on campus; managing includes, but is not limited to, facilitating the process of program creation, facilitating and organizing volunteers, being present at crucial rehearsals, reserving spaces for rehearsals and performances, and organizing details and email chains of art events. In the after school dance program, I teach ballet to K/1st grade, 4th/5th grade, and middle school along with jazz to K/1st and 4th/5th graders. I love being a substitute in the lower school on top of my other roles!

Q: What is your favorite part about your job/Bryn Mawr?

A: My favorite part about my position is sharing my love of the Arts that I have had my entire life. As a child, I danced professionally with the Pennsylvania Ballet, and being able to share my love of dance with others is a blessing. My favorite part about Bryn Mawr is the caring and supportive community that facilitates such a wonderful work environment.

Q: Are you from Baltimore, and if not, where are you from?

A: I am from Haddon Heights, NJ and went to college at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. Growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia (not even 20 minutes away) allowed me to experience the city. Growing up I was a dancer, cheerleader, and in musicals. My friends and I enjoyed bike riding, shopping, going to the movies, and choreographing. I've always had a close relationship with my family and still do today.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

A: In my spare time I love watching World of Dance and Friends. I also enjoy reading fiction novels and teaching fitness classes. I visit New Jersey whenever I can to see family and friends. I also enjoy going to my significant other's parents' house in Annapolis.

Q: Do you have any creative projects students can do while being quarantined?

A: While being quarantined, I advise students to create something that makes them smile; whether that be paintings, music, choreography, etc. I hope everyone stays healthy during this time!

With the absence of our presence on campus, it is certainly refreshing to have such a bright and kind member of our community. Ms. Monteleone’s radiant personality has found its way through our screens. In accordance with her sentiment on coping with COVID, stay healthy and stay creative!
